Ashlyn A. Hurley Jan-7-2009 Assignment #1

My research didn't really have to do with currency, but rather counting. Which in some fabricated culture could then relate to money. Anyway, images attached are that of resistors used in electronic motherboards (nerdy, but whatever). The ones pictured show how much of a charge can be passed through that resistor depending upon the bands of color. The colors signify how strong or how weak they are. Similar to how the penny is weaker than the one-hundred dollar bill. Also pictured is a really cool rosary. Rosaries are used in the Catholic church as a posture of prayer. Helping a person keep count of their prayers to Jesus, the rosary uses many beads to keep place and tell a story. The rosary pictured is one from Venice where, geographically speaking, is close to Rome, the birthplace of Roman Catholicism, which is cool.

These, are what I'm going to use to inspire my project.

  1. The resistors are really beautiful- Very simple and very bead-like. I think they are a great stepping off point for a currency. But I also love the idea of pulling from religion- Many seem to have jewelry to count prayers or blessings- you should check out some others to see if they have other ideas. Thanks
