Currency Research

I've been looking at ancient Roman, Etruscan and Greek coins. These coins were made of bronze, silver or gold and valued according to weight and material. A stamped image on one or both surfaces indicated denomination.

I'm also interested in ancient Chinese coins, particularly the cash (above) and spade (right) shape.

Many cultures have used beads as a form of currency. European traders exchanged glass beads to Native Americans for furs, skins, and other commodities.

European beads were also traded in Africa for gold, ivory, palm oil and slaves. According to the Picard Trade Bead Museum, hundreds of thousands of these beads were produced in Europe in the nineteenth century.

Nice Research- What are you drawn to with the chinese coins? The texture on the green spade could be created on glass with the help of a little baking soda.
