Cassandra Alonzo-visual language-1/11/09

As I have been going through the process of beadmaking, I've become attracted to the concept of segments and rings within the piece. I am a very organic artist by nature, and I've found the look of bone segments or wood slices to be both very organic as well as embody the concept of rings. The contrast of having something so rigid, such as bone or wood, and the fluid aspect of glass is interesting, as well as the thought of the imperfections within these objects.
For my currency set, I am going to have a series of slices, or segments. The value of each piece will depend on both the amount of rings within the segment, as well as the level of purity, or in other words, the amount of imperfections within the segment. My civilization believes that these qualities directly relate to the religious relevance of the piece. The images that I have collected give a wide variety of possible imperfections and quality of rings.
